How to Set Up and Use Blockstream Jade Plus

Blockstream Jade Plus is a hardware wallet that keeps the keys required to spend your bitcoin separate from your phone or computer. A companion wallet, such as the Blockstream app, prepares transactions and Jade Plus verifies and signs them.

Information: Jade Plus is self-custodial. You are responsible for protecting your recovery phrase and device PIN.


Before you begin


You will need:


  • A Blockstream Jade Plus
  • The official Blockstream app on a supported phone or computer
  • A pen and paper for your recovery phrase
  • A private place to complete the setup


Warning: Never type, photograph, upload, or share your recovery phrase. Bitcoin Well and Blockstream support will never ask for it.


Set up Jade Plus


  1. Download the official Blockstream app.
  2. Turn on Jade Plus by holding the power button or connecting it to power.
  3. Install a firmware update if the Blockstream app prompts you to do so.
  4. Select Set Up Jade, then choose Begin Setup.

  1. Select Create New Wallet. Use Restore Wallet only when recovering an existing wallet.

  1. Write the recovery phrase shown by Jade Plus on paper, in the correct order.
  2. Complete the recovery phrase check on the device.
  3. Open the Blockstream app and select Connect Jade.

  1. Choose a connection method on Jade Plus. USB is supported on Android and desktop, Bluetooth is supported on Android and iOS, and QR can be used for Bitcoin transactions.
  2. Select your Jade Plus in the app and complete the pairing process.

  1. Create a six-digit PIN on Jade Plus.
  2. When setup is complete, Jade Plus will appear under My Wallets in the Blockstream app.

Back up and recover your wallet


Your written recovery phrase is the backup. Keep it offline in a secure location that is separate from Jade Plus. Your PIN protects the device, but it does not replace the recovery phrase.


To restore the wallet on a new or reset Jade:


  1. Turn on Jade and select Set Up Jade.
  2. Select Restore Wallet.
  3. Choose the correct recovery phrase length and enter the words on Jade in order.
  4. Connect Jade to a compatible companion app and complete the setup.


Warning: Anyone with your recovery phrase can take your bitcoin. Enter it only on a trusted hardware wallet when you intentionally restore your wallet.


Receive bitcoin from Bitcoin Well


  1. Unlock your Jade wallet in the Blockstream app.
  2. Open Transact and select Receive.
  3. Make sure you are receiving Bitcoin on the Bitcoin network.
  4. Select Verify on Device.
  5. Compare the complete address shown in the app with the address shown on Jade Plus.
  6. Approve the address on Jade Plus only when they match.
  7. Copy the address and use it as the destination wallet address in Bitcoin Well.


Tip: Send a small test transaction before transferring a larger amount.


Send bitcoin


  1. Unlock your Jade wallet in the Blockstream app.
  2. Open Transact and select Send.
  3. Enter the recipient's Bitcoin address and the amount.
  4. Choose a network fee based on how quickly you need the transaction confirmed.
  5. Review the details, then slide to send.
  6. On Jade Plus, verify the complete recipient address and amount.
  7. Approve the transaction on Jade Plus.
