How to Buy Bitcoin Using an Interac e-Transfer Request on Lightning

An Interac e-Transfer Request lets you approve a pre-filled payment through your participating Canadian financial institution and receive bitcoin in a Lightning wallet, instead of manually entering transfer details.


This feature is currently requires you to request access through customer support, please contact the Customer Success team at Bitcoin Well to enable this feature!


Before you start: Add a Lightning wallet to your Bitcoin Well account. The current minimum purchase is $10, and your available limits appear in the app.


Buy with an Interac e-Transfer Request on Lightning


  1. Sign in to Bitcoin Well and select Buy bitcoin.

  1. Enter the amount you want to spend.

  1. Select the payment-method field, then choose Interac e-Transfer Request.

  1. Under Destination, select the Lightning wallet that should receive your bitcoin.

  1. Verify the amount, Lightning destination, bitcoin delivery, spread, and rate. Select Confirm to create the request.

  1. Follow the secure instructions from Interac or your financial institution to approve the request, then monitor the purchase under Activity.


Approve only a request that you initiated while signed in to Bitcoin Well. Verify the amount and requester before authorizing it, and enter banking credentials only on your bank's secure page.


Each e-Transfer Request is for one purchase. Support and any bank fees vary by financial institution. If your bank cannot fulfil the request, use the standard Interac e-Transfer payment method instead.


What happens next?


After your bank fulfils the request, Bitcoin Well converts the received dollars into bitcoin and sends it to your selected Lightning wallet. Start a new purchase whenever you need another request.
