Use Jade Plus Temporary Signer safely
Temporary Signer loads a wallet temporarily so Jade can identify or sign with it, then forgets that wallet after the device is turned off. Blockstream also calls this stateless signing. It does not replace an offline, tested recovery backup.
Use an unfunded test wallet first. Temporary Signer requires repeated access to recovery material. Never enter a recovery phrase or passphrase into a phone, computer, website, wallet coordinator, cloud form, chat, or support ticket. Enter it only directly on trusted Jade hardware while following Blockstream's Temporary Signer instructions.
Decide whether stateless signing fits
Temporary Signer can reduce the value of a locked device to a thief because the wallet is not retained after Jade is powered off. The trade-off is repeated access to recovery material whenever the wallet is loaded.
That repeated access can be less safe than a normally initialized Jade with a PIN and well-separated backup. Each loading session creates another opportunity for cameras, people, or handling errors to expose the recovery material.

Official reference: Use Jade as a stateless signing device.
Protect a SeedQR as a complete secret
A SeedQR is a machine-readable representation of wallet recovery information. Treat it exactly like written recovery words. Anyone who copies it can recover the wallet unless a separate BIP39 passphrase is also required.
Do not display or scan a real SeedQR near phones, webcams, security cameras, windows, smart glasses, other people, or networked recording equipment. Never photograph, print through a shared service, upload, or send it. Store it offline and separately from Jade. A QR workflow changes data transport; it does not make the QR public or safe to observe.
Use Temporary Signer for a recovery check
On a reset Jade, follow Blockstream's current Temporary Signer steps and enter recovery material directly on Jade. For a passphrase wallet, enter the passphrase directly on Jade as well.
- Record the intended wallet fingerprint and one hardware-verified address before the test.
- Load the wallet temporarily through the documented hardware flow.
- Compare the displayed fingerprint.
- Connect or transfer public information through the documented companion flow.
- Verify the complete known address on Jade.
- Turn Jade off completely.
- Turn it back on and confirm during the test that the temporary wallet is no longer retained, as Blockstream describes.
A fingerprint check is useful but does not replace a known-address comparison and small signing test. Follow Test a Bitcoin wallet recovery.
Understand the power-off boundary
Temporary Signer wallet data is retained while Jade remains powered. Closing the companion app, disconnecting a cable, ending a QR exchange, locking a screen, or returning to another menu does not prove that Jade has forgotten the wallet. Finish the signing flow, turn Jade off completely, and protect the recovery material before leaving the private workspace.
Before using Temporary Signer, complete the baseline in Secure Jade Plus before funding. If a backup cannot pass recovery, return to a simpler setup. A separate advanced feature is covered in Test a Jade Plus duress PIN safely.
