How To Set Up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your Bitcoin Well account. After entering your password, you will also need a time-based code from your authenticator app.

Before you begin

Install an authenticator app that supports time-based one-time passwords (TOTP), such as Google Authenticator, 1Password, or Apple Passwords.

Your 2FA QR code and secret key can be used to add your account to an authenticator app. Never share them or include them in a screenshot.

Open your 2FA settings

Sign in to your Bitcoin Well account.
Select Account from the sidebar, then select Profile.

Find Two-Factor Authentication and select Activate 2FA.

Connect your authenticator app

In the Setup two-factor authentication window, scan the QR code with your authenticator app.

If you cannot scan the QR code, copy the Secret key into your authenticator app manually.

Keep the setup window open until you have successfully confirmed a code. Closing it before confirmation means you may need to start again.

Confirm the setup

Enter the six-digit code generated by your authenticator app in the Enter code field.

Select Confirm.

Two-factor authentication is not enabled until Bitcoin Well accepts a valid six-digit code.

After 2FA is enabled, your authenticator app will generate a new code whenever you sign in.

If you lose access to your authenticator

Open a support ticket with Bitcoin Well. Our team will need to verify your identity before access can be restored.
